Does my paragraph about German U-boats make sense?

U-boats were military submarines used by the German Navy to blockade the Triple Entente. Their goal was to destroy and sink the merchant convoys bringing supplies from the British Empire and the United States to the islands of Great Britain. U-boats were mainly used in the English Channel were they would target allied shipping. By sinking civilian cargo ships, they were denying their enemies an important source of supplies.
