Is this a good example of why religious beliefs should be considered mental illness?

I can see your point and it's rather embarrassing to see as a Christian. But I think in these cases it's actually the mental illness being present and then exaggerating and warping the religious beliefs and not the other way around. Look at Bin Laden as an example.
