History question. Please help?!?

So in history today the teacher broke the entire class into 3 groups. We are currently talking about the Cuban Missile Crisis and each group was responsible for taking a plan of action for how the United States would invade Cuba. The options were diplomacy, blockade, and air strike. Our group was given the blockade. Pretty much what we had to do was come up with information to present to the class acting as though we were talking to the president telling them the blockade would be the best option. Everyone in the group is responsible for pieces of information to talk about. Now for me i have to figure out .. "why this option best serves the interests of the united states in its relationship with the soviet union" And this is where i need help. I've never been to great at understanding history unless someone explains it to me very well. Otherwise i get very confused! i read so much information on this trying to find an answer but i cant come down to a specific answer that makes sense. so if you could please help me! i would appreciate it so much! thank youuu.
