Why did the Soviet Union’s blockade of Berlin fail in 1949?

Simple: It was the "Berlin Air Lift". Mostly american cargo planes like the c-17 flew in supplies into berlin through special corridors that the Soviets had no Control over. Since there was no way to stop the planes unless shooting at them and starting up another war, they decide to lift the blockade.
