How is that a company in VA tgat alleges I owe them money wait almost 10 years to try and collect?

I got a letter from a company called G&H credit in VA, they claim they won a judgement against me in 2002, yet this is the first I am hearing of this? WHy isn't it on my credit report? What is the statute of limitations for this and can they take legal action against me in my current state. What should I tell these idiots on Monday when I call them.
